| mambo (Salsa on2) The word “Mambo” means “Conversation with the gods”.
The Mambo dance originated in Cuba, the fusion of swing and Cuban music produced this fascinating rhythm and in turn created a new sensational Dance. Mambo is attributed to Perez Prado who introduced it at la Tropicana nightclub in Havana in 1943. This popularity spread to the United States very rapidly. Mambo is characterised by the hip movements that it entails. While moving forward and backwards to the beat, dancers “sway” with the hips, creating a fluid motion that flows with music. Mambo is well known for its fast and diverse steps. It is danced on a sligtly different rythum from normal Salsa called On2. A modified version of the Mambo was presented to the public at dance studios, resort hotels, gyms and at nightclubs.
